Say Moo Moo if You Support Local

Yesterday marked the Grand Opening of Moo Moo Grilled Cheesery, in North River.

While the restaurant has been opened since June, formal celebrations were in full swing Saturday.

Moo Moo started their adventure with a Cavendish location, five years ago; and, this summer the company added the Milky Way Drive location, in North River. It's been a hit with locals ever since. And, no wonder - locals love those local businesses, who support local folks, and use local products. That's a whole lot of local!

Moo Moo's Mission: Support Local

Moo Moo Grilled Cheesery only uses locally-sourced ingredients to make their products. The cheese, of course, comes from COWS - who utilize local dairy farmers' products; the bread comes from Buns N Things Bakery; the tomatoes come from Van Kampen's Green Houses; the turkey, bacon, and pork come from Larkin Brothers, MacQuarrie's Meats, and Al's. And last, but not least, Spud Island supplies the delicious, island-made potato chips.

Sheela Brennan, Director-of-Operations, says, "Moo Moo's mission is, 'to be local, is to support local'."

Brennan says she's proud to work for Moo Moo, not only because it's a business built on community values, but because it's fun. "I wouldn't be here if it wasn't fun. We have such a fun atmosphere, and we really succeed off delivering a good product in a fun place."

Armand Bernard, chief-cheese-maker at COWS creamery, since 2006, says it's a pleasure to use island ingredients to make an award-winning product for consumers. "It means a lot, knowing I'm using local ingredients to make such a product. Especially with everything that's going on these days with the dairy industry and all."

So, if you're looking for a yummy lunch, check out Moo Moo Grilled Cheesery - opened all year round - on Milky Way Drive in North River.

Eating local, means supporting local, and nowadays that is as important as ever. It supports farmers, islanders, small business and ethical farming practices - which in turn gives back to the community, and the environment.
